Description : Heart patients who can't tolerate the side effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs may have a new option; Pitavastatin may reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and even death up to 68 percent of patients. More than 20,000 patients with hypercholesterolemia who were treated with pitavastatin for up to 2 years, the LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) target rate recommended by the Japanese Atherosclerosis Society (JAS) was achieved by 88.2% of low-risk patients (<160 mg/dL), 82.7% of intermediate-risk patients (<140 mg/dL), 66.5% of high-risk patients (<120 mg/dL), and 50.3% of secondary prevention patients (<100 mg/dL).
