Description : Prucalopride is a novel enterokinetic agent. It is the first of a new generation of selective, high-affinity 5-HT4 receptor agonists. It stimulates colonic mass movements, which provide the main propulsive force for defecation. This drug, which has been developed for the treatment of chronic constipation in adults in whom laxatives fail to provide adequate relief, stimulates gastrointestinal motility through its effects on 5-HT4 receptors. No cardiovascular safety issues have arisen with Prucalopride treatment. Although further long-term and comparative data would be beneficial, prucalopride provides an additional treatment option for patients with CIC - Drugs .2016 Jan; 76(1):99-110.
